What Our Users Should Know

Overview

The Glisteners Foundation is a free academic tutoring service that provides tutoring for students K - 6. We value all our tutors, volunteers, and students. We strive to provide our students with the best services available. However, student academic success depends on multiple factors. Such as a student's determination and dedication in conjunction with a student's ability to process the materials taught within a specific time frame; being serviced by The Glisteners Foundation may not guarantee academic success for all students.

To benefit the most from our service, we encourage students to:

  • specify ahead of time what subject they will need help with,

  • always be on time for all lessons,

  • pay attention to course explanations and

  • advocate for themselves when they do not understand.

In this way, it gives instructors maximum time to help students in their areas of struggles.

Purpose

Our goal is to assist students in becoming independent learners. We want students to understand academic concepts and succeed honestly. We help students with homework by explaining concepts and reinforcing healthy study habits.

Students enrolled in our program must be prepared to learn and grow academically. The Glisteners Foundation will not provide students with answers to take-home tests or assignments as it goes against academic integrity. We also do not assist with school projects.

Computer, headset and Laptop requirements

By registering for our program, you consent that you have or have access to the necessary hardware and components required to receive service from us.

You understand that to maneuver our program correctly, you will need either a desktop computer with working speakers or a laptop with a working microphone. If you are using a public library, internet café, or school computer (due to volume restrictions), you will need a headset with a working microphone. These components are essential as they enable you to successfully chat, hear and interact with your tutor (or student) to carry through lessons.

At this time, we do not furnish, lease, or sell any electronics or devices to users for use in our program.

Teamwork

Student success relies significantly on teamwork: student, tutor, and parents.

Sometimes, due to the difficulty of course content, some students shy away or give up too quickly, telling instructors they understand when they do not. For this reason, we encourage parents to talk with their children to make sure they know how important it is, to listen to their instructor at each lesson, and ask as many questions as possible when they do not understand. After all, if a student continues telling a tutor they understand the concepts taught when they truly do not because they want to end the study as soon as possible, no amount of tutoring would benefit that student.  Students should also take advantage of previous instructional notes to help them understand anything they may have missed during their lessons.

Duration of Lesson

Tutoring sessions may be carried out in two ways: two 90-minute sessions or three 60-minute sessions per week. Students may not exceed three hours per week.

Please see Terms & Conditions for more information on Lesson Agreement.

If your account is closed and you wish to reenroll, you will need to submit a new application.

Tutors & Volunteers

Any account that remains inactive for a period of fours weeks without notice, will be closed. If you wish to reapply for a position with us, you must submit a new application.

For more information on our terms regarding Member Accounts please see our Terms & Conditions.

Zero Tolerance

It is essential that students refrain from disrupting lessons by being uncooperative or using inappropriate language with instructors. In this day and age, the media has open young children to believe that tolerance to particular behavior and language is harmless when it is wrong. Parents are responsible for informing their children about these unacceptable behaviors to help maintain educational virtues. To be fair to students waiting in line for lessons, any student who willfully refuses to be respectful, causing an ongoing burden for instructors, will be dropped from the program.

The Glisteners Foundation has zero-tolerance for disorderly conduct. Disorderly conduct includes but is not limited to swearing, cursing, the continuance of not paying attention. Disorderly conducts extends to insults, racial slurs, sexual advances or jokes, threats, uploading or discussing explicit content, offending political views of any kind, sarcasm, clowning around, and any inappropriate attitude toward an instructor or other users during lessons.

For more information on our terms regarding Prohibited Activities please see our Terms & Conditions.

Safety

We make great efforts to secure our users, especially students, from digital vulnerabilities, but nothing is risk-free on the internet. Although we perform background or credential check-ups on all our tutors, we can not monitor everyone's activities 24/7. For example, student users are not screen, but it does not mean they are exempt from the possibility of becoming first-time offenders. For these reasons, our policies do not allow for students or tutors to share personal information period. "Personal information is any information that can be linked or trace back to an individual." We also prohibit students and tutors from carrying out small talks as they can unintentionally lead to personal conversations.

While using our services, you may not give out any personal information to other users other than booking tutoring sessions.

Tutoring sessions are offered conditional upon student needs and tutor availability. No tutor or student may favor or set preferences for a specific tutor or student for any lessons. Any student or tutor caught engaging in exchanging personal information during and outside of studies will be immediately terminated and will be reported for inappropriate conduct.

By consenting to our program, you acknowledge the possibility of such risk. You realize that while we try to enforce security measures to protect our users, nothing is risk-free. Parents are responsible for reviewing our security policy with their children to help them identify and understand the likelihood of such a threat. We encourage parents to continue to talk to their children occasionally to remind them to practice safety and monitor their children's activities to avoid potential grounds for vulnerability.

Reporting an Incident

If at any time users wish to report an incident, you may do so using the form below, found under the "Contact Us" tab. If the incident occurred during a tutoring session, please clearly state the tutor or student's name, the date, and the session in which the incident happened. We appreciate your patience as we investigate your concerns and get back to you promptly.
