Prospective Students

Acceptance

Students who have been accepted into the program will be alerted via their parent's email. Instructions on how to begin scheduling lessons with a tutor will be in the email.

We ask that parents wait two weeks for a confirmation letter before reaching out with concerns about their child's acceptance into the program. A student may receive a notification of acceptance sooner. We review applications on a first come, first-serve basis.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Procedures & Guidelines

Procedures and Guidelines

How Lessons Are Conducted

Tutoring sessions are conducted through a virtual classroom using a digital whiteboard and microphone (for instruction/chat exchange).

Equipment

To benefit from our program, a student must have access to the following:

  • internet

  • a computer or laptop

  • a headset, or a computer with a built-in microphone and speaker.

This is a mandatory requirement, as lessons will not be able to be conducted without these technological components.

Lesson Privacy Policy

The Glisteners Foundation does not share student personal information with tutors.

  • Tutors will only have access to a student's first name and the subject in which the student needs help with.

  • Webcam usage between tutors and students is prohibited, including the exchange of personal information.

  • Students should only discuss subject-related topics/questions with tutors.

  • Please keep conversations within academic parameters at all times.

Lesson Integrity

To maintain lesson integrity, all tutoring sessions will be recorded. Students will have access to prior lesson notes for help to refine skills. However, students and tutors will not have access to the vocal part of the lessons.

Maximizing Lessons

To maximize the benefits of our tutoring sessions:

  • Students should come to lessons on time. Being tardy deprives students of valuable instructional time.

  • Students may scan and upload assignments to the virtual classroom, although it is not necessary.

  • We encourage students to advocate for themselves and ask as much questions as possible to help clarify content they do not understand.

  • Our tutors are here to help, and we make it our priority to listen and individualize each lesson to students' needs.

Lesson Hours

Each student is only allowed three hours of tutoring per week. All hours are forward moving. If a student does not use all of their hours in a week, those hours will be consider finished by the end of the week; hours are refreshed weekly.

Bookings and Cancellations

We require lesson reservations and cancellations to be made at least 24 hours ahead. If you have extenuating circumstances and need to cancel a lesson, please notify us as soon as possible.

Maintaining Active Status

All students must sign up for lessons at least three times a month to be considered active. If a student remains inactive for a period of four weeks, they will be automatically dropped from the program to make space for new student enrollments.

Updating Information

Parents are responsible for updating student information. If there is a change in any part of the student's registered information at any time, we ask that parents notify us as soon as possible to correct any changes.

Program Guideline Acknowledgment

We value our students and want them to succeed. Our tutors bring patience, knowledge, and understanding to every lesson, aimed to help your child succeed academically.

Once enrolled in the program, parents bear the responsibility to review these procedures and guidelines to help their child comprehend the program's policy and procedures.

Sharing responsibilities promotes a healthy and safe environment for all learners.
